Marjorie Nightingale
Individual, Couples & Sex Therapy

Jaynea Hutchinson

I am a licensed Couple and Sex Therapist in Washington, D.C. I am passionate about helping people create loving, supportive, and affirming relationships. Building strong relational foundations with a current or future partner requires laying bricks and each person must be willing to work on resolving lingering pain from the past. With love and compassion, I help individuals and couples heal past hurts as they move towards emotional connection and enhanced sexual intimacy.
I spent over seventeen years as a family law attorney before entering the counseling field. Watching the devastating impacts of people going through the divorce process propelled me to help relationships heal. I obtained a master's in Marriage and Family Therapy at LaSalle University, and a post master’s certificate in Sex Therapy at the Council for Relationships. I have a Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy from Drexel University, where my research addresses the unique needs of couples of color. Additionally, I teach master’s level students in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Virginia Tech University.
Welcome! I’m Janynea Hutchinson. As a Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist
(LGMFT) and trained sex therapist, I am deeply committed to providing a warm and supportive
environment for individuals and couples to explore their relationships. My approach integrates
attachment theory and narrative therapy to foster self-awareness and empower clients to pursue
fulfilling relationships.
Drawing from my Afro-Latinx heritage, I have a profound appreciation for community and a
genuine curiosity about diverse cultural experiences. In my view, creating a space where
individuals can authentically explore their emotions is the cornerstone of facilitating meaningful
change. My bubbly personality allows me to blend professionalism with a personal touch,
creating a therapeutic space where laughter and deep emotional exploration can coexist.
My training at the Ackerman Institute for Family and my academic background in Sociology
(B.S., Bowie State University) and Couples and Family Therapy (M.A., University of Maryland)
have equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of systemic dynamics and their impact
on interpersonal relationships. I am passionate about helping clients navigate a wide range of
challenges, including intimacy and sexual concerns, communication difficulties, infidelity, and
trauma recovery. I am particularly interested in working with diverse populations and am
dedicated to providing culturally sensitive and LGBTQIA+ affirmative care.
My clinical experience at the Center for Healthy Families allowed me to gain expertise in
addressing anxiety, strengthening communication, rebuilding trust, and supporting individuals
and families through various life transitions. I am an active member of the American Association
for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and remain committed to ongoing professional
development.
On a personal note, I value connection, creativity, and cultural exploration. In my downtime, I
find joy in music and roller skating. It is an honor to witness the transformative power of therapy,
and I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective therapeutic services to all my
clients.
